Guilford Little League has many different programs for children aged 4-12. All children will have opportunities to participate at all levels of competition regardless of skill or ability. Little League is all about teamwork, sportsmanship, and teaching our children how to be well-adjusted members of the community. While all sports have competition, the most important part of the league is our ability to teach our children how to be good citizens.

The following programs are generally offered in both spring and fall seasons.

Tee-Ball (ages 4-6)

Guilford has adopted a program created by Little League International for Tee Ball players (ages 4-6) that is specifically designed to provide a foundation and introduction to baseball and softball. It is grounded in fun, fitness and fundamentals.

The Little League® Tee Ball program features structured learning highlighted by one practice and one game per week.

Minors A Baseball (ages 5 and 6)

Minors A is open to boys and girls age 5 or 6 who have played one year of tee ball, have an older brother/sister that plays ball, or are 6 years old. This program introduces coach pitch (no strikeouts). It is an instructional league that is meant to prepare kids for Minors AA.

Minors AA Baseball and Softball (ages 7 and 8)

AA is an instructional division that will introduce kid pitching. In AA, for the first few weeks of the season the coaches will pitch until the kids pick up the flow of the game. After a few weeks kids will begin to pitch the entire game with intermittent help from coaches. 

After 4 balls have been pitched, the at-bat teams' coach will come in to continue pitching until the batter either hits or strikes out (batters who strike out may hit soft-toss or off a tee at coach's discretion). This pitching philosophy is beneficial in two ways: This gives the batter confidence learning to hit pitches from a peer, and it is beneficial to the pitchers in gaining game experience. No child is allowed to pitch more than 2 innings or 40 pitches per week.

There are no walks allowed, but a hit batter does take their base. Base stealing is not permitted. Game scores are generally not kept in AA. Innings typically end after 3 outs, 5 runs, or when all players on a team have batted.

Minors AAA Baseball and Softball (ages 8-10)

Minors AAA introduces more competitive play, with playoffs, championship games, umpires and basestealing (no leads). Kids pitch (subject to strict pitch-count rules) with called balls and strikes. All players are placed in the batting order.

Innings typically end after 3 outs or when the hitting team has scored five runs. 

Guilford typically fields an All-Star team composed of players 10 and under that competes against neighboring towns for an opportunity to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. The team is assembled shortly after the conclusion of the regular season.

Majors Baseball and Softball (ages 10-12)

Majors Baseball is our most competitive league, with playoffs, championship games, umpires and basestealing (no leads). Kids pitch (subject to strict pitch-count rules) with called balls and strikes. All players are placed in the batting order.

Guilford typically fields All-Star teams composed of players 11 and under and 12 and under that compete against neighboring towns for an opportunity to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. The team is assembled shortly after the conclusion of the regular season.
